Export from Roadway Optimizer

Now that we have developed a spacing strategy we have a couple of options for moving that information into the CAD drawing area. First, it is possible to Export the RP-8-18 grid and luminaires from the Roadway Optimizer directly into AGi32’s Model Mode. Let’s try this and then discuss the caveats.

Export from Optimizer

  • Reopen Roadway Optimizer if not already there.
  • Select Layout 4.
  • Click on the Export button on the toolbar (left-most icon on top toolbar). This will close Optimizer and return control to the Model Mode area of AGi32.
  • Zoom in on marker 317.
  • The calculation grid and all luminaires considered in the Optimizer are attached to the cursor (appears as a box as you move). Click on the point shown to the left of marker 317, at the inflection of the curb line (below).

  • You can now set the rotation of the grid and luminaire alignment with a second click, or by entering 0 (zero) from the keyboard and pressing enter.
  • Another instance of the entire layout (grid plus luminaires) is attached to the cursor if you wanted to place it elsewhere in the drawing. We won’t so just click the right mouse button to terminate the command.

Let’s evaluate what we have done. This is a very handy way to get an exact RP-8-14 grid and your computed pole positions on your CAD drawing. However, you must select the position very carefully as the poles are aligned with the grid. These may not be the pole locations you require. Even if they are starting in the correct position, inevitably you will need to move a pole or two to avoid driveways, etc.

We could amend these pole locations to the length of the project, but in situations of irregular streets like this example, it is often better to utilize a different approach.

  • Click the UNDO command on the main toolbar (or Ctrl-z).
